our shorts and flip flops on. Well neither Neil or I are from around here, so we pretty much knew nothing about how to get up to the "P" but only knew that you could get up to it. So we started driving around and all the ways to get up there seemed to be on private property. So we drove until we found this dirt road that eventually ended. So we figured we'd walk from there. So about 2 minutes into our "hike" Korver is being carried by me because his flip flops just aren't cutting it, Cole is whining about the weeds and how he's the only kid that has to walk, and Neil is carrying Shailee and steps into a cactus! Turns out...... there are cacti everywhere!!! Any other good sane parents would have called it quits there but no......I'm determined to make it to the "P" and gosh dang it we will have fun! So Neil and I took turns carrying the kids and Cole watched his step very carefully and we only had to stop a few times to get cacti out of the bottom of our shoes and Nahla's paws. Poor thing! But we finally made it!

Despite what we walked through it was so pretty up there! When there were rumors of a temple possibly being built down here people thought it would built by the P which I never understood as it is such an ugly mountain/hill, but being up there tonight I totally understood why people thought the temple would go there. It's beautiful looking down on everything! Instead, it is being built in our neighborhood, which I'm heartbroken to leave. You probably can't see it but this is a picture overlooking our neighborhood and the temple.

And of course on the way back Cole stepped into a cactus, freaked out with the pain and tried to pull it out of his shoe causing more needles to go into his hands. Then he saw the blood on his foot and hands and that about did him in. Poor guy! Then a few minutes later Neil slid off a rock into a cactus and had needles all over his foot. Needless to say everyone was very happy to be back at the car. And of course on our way up we found the right way to hike up the P. But honestly this way was MUCH more memorable. Despite the cacti we really did have a good time.

Just an FYI Park on the canyon road just to the north of the canyon past the new house with the tiny club house in between homes by the canal. It is the easiest route. It looks like you parked on the north end and hiked up through all the crap. Sorry it was a pain for you and your little one's But at least you made it to the top to see the view.
